Dementia Australia

Understanding Dementia Workshop

Facilitated by Dementia Australia and hosted by Mosman Council, this afternoon workshop provides an overview of dementia, including signs, symptoms, causes and an understanding of how dementia affects the brain and behaviour. You will be encouraged to reflect on your practice and ways this knowledge translates into person-centred support for people living with dementia.

You will gain knowledge in the nature of dementia, including its prevalence, risk factors, various types, how the brain works, and the signs of dementia. You'll also learn about a person-centred approach to dementia support that focuses on communication, choice, and decision-making, as well as the resources and services available to you.

This training is suitable for healthcare and support workers, allied health professionals, family carers, community service workers, students in health-related fields, and anyone new to dementia care who wants to develop compassionate, informed support skills.

Please note, this workshop is NOT suitable for people living with dementia.
