Agathe Backer-Grøndahl – Scherzo – This spirited and dynamic piece, written when Norwegian Agathe was just 22, reflects her early mastery of the Romantic style. Best known for her piano works, she nevertheless infuses the Scherzo we perform here with lively rhythms and lyrical charm, showcasing her gift for melody and orchestral colour.

Mendelssohn – Violin Concerto in E minor, Op. 64 – One of the most beloved violin concertos of all time, we are excited to welcome back 15 year old Ellie Malonzo to perform the piece with us. Mendelssohn’s masterful work blends soaring melodies, seamless transitions, and dazzling virtuosity. This piece is always an audience favourite and with Ellie's prowess it will not disappoint.

Shostakovich – Symphony No. 1 in F minor, Op. 10 – A remarkable achievement by the 19-year-old Shostakovich, this symphony brims with youthful wit, biting irony, and intense drama. With its bold contrasts and striking orchestration, it is an early glimpse of the composer’s unmistakable genius and an omen of what was to come.
