Acquisition Fund | Mosman Art Gallery
The Mosman Art Gallery Acquisition Fund launched on the 10th anniversary of The Balnaves Gift in 2022 and was founded to continue the inspiring legacy of the late Neil Balnaves AO. Since the success of our first four acquisitions by Imants Tillers, Thea Anamara Perkins and Arthur Streeton and Emily Galicek we continue to welcome donations towards this fund indefinitely.
In 2026, we have the opportunity to acquire a significant work by Mosman artist Jo Bertini - Sea-bite Headland, 2025.
Commissioned for our Curlew Camp exhibition, this work offers a contemporary, feminist reinterpretation of the iconic Edwards Bay landscape. It also honours the often-overlooked contributions of women artists such as Hilda Rix Nicholas and Ethel Carrick Fox, who were historically excluded from the artist camps but left a lasting impact on Australian art.
The painting holds deep personal meaning for Jo, depicting a view from her childhood home. Her family’s artistic legacy — including her mother, respected Mosman artist Anne Ferguson — continues through this beautiful and significant work.
Sea-bite Headland connects the history of Curlew Camp with a vibrant contemporary voice and would be a remarkable addition to our collection. Help continue to support the commissioning of contemporary artists and the acquisition of important historic works to continue building an art collection of national significance at Mosman Art Gallery, and join the Acquisition Fund journey today!
