Restored Posidonia australis seagrass meadows

Project Restore Update - Mosman

The Sydney Institute of Marine Science (SIMS), in collaboration with Mosman Council, present a public information session about a multi-habitat marine restoration initiative happening in Mosman and throughout Sydney Harbour. Come along and hear about the exciting work that is taking place in your local area!

Through its vision to restore and connect degraded seascapes within Sydney Harbour for marine life and humans to thrive, Project Restore aims to restore the endangered Posidonia australis seagrass meadows, rehabilitate kelp-dominated rocky reefs, and install Living Seawall panels and fish habitat enhancement units (Reef Pods) across 10 carefully selected sites within the harbour.

Mosman is home to the first restoration activity of Project Restore, where, in collaboration with Mosman Council and the Environmental Trust, seagrass was transplanted for the first time in Sydney Harbour. As well as the replacement of 10 traditional swing moorings with environmentally friendly moorings. Made possible by the Balmoral Boatshed.
