A Mosman Hall of Industry Exhibition for the Australian Heritage Festival
Mosman Library Services regularly participates in the Australian Heritage Festival, an annual celebration of local communities and their unique heritage. This year's theme Connecting People, Places and the Past provides an opportunity to rediscover local tales of commercial fame and fortune.
Mosman is not recognised as a hub of industry and unlike other harbour suburbs its industrial history is very sketchy. However, many Mosman residents owned companies that manufactured some of Australia’s most famous brands. This exhibition takes a look at the achievements of Mosman manufacturers who created such iconic brands as Malleys, Taubmans, Rexona, Metters, Ferris and Jenison.
With a focus on the ephemera used to promote these companies and perpetuate their commercial identity in the early 20th century the exhibition will be of great interest.
