Make your own Insect Hotel

  • Australia has about 2000 bee species – with about 350 in the greater Sydney area!
  • Did you know that 70% of bees live in dirt and the rest live in hollow stems or holes in trees?
  • Native bees, such as the beautiful blue-banded bee and dainty stingless bee, are important pollinators of agricultural crops and our amazing Australian flora.

Join us for a dynamic workshop in which we will introduce the bees of Australia, and investigate their vital role in pollination and supporting local biodiversity. Bee life cycles, behaviour and environmental issues will also be highlighted. Participants will have the opportunity to make an Insect Hotel suitable for about 24 bee species.

All welcome.

Please note that other than stingless bees, most Australian bee species are able to sting, however are not aggressive and rarely do. They are around us all the time after all!
